It's Hot, Sticky, Sweet....

So what do you think?... I changed things up a bit on here.  I blame the Diet Dr. Pepper I drank at 4pm on Friday night...I should know better, but any way.

It was another great weekend, wow I am on a roll.  The beginning of this summer I promised myself that this year I was going to use our pool more and so far so good!

Saturday we had the "un-birthday" party for DQ lol.  A few close friends came over for pizza and swimming it was super laid back and though we did do pizza,  I made sure to have lots of  veggies, fruit and salad. I will admit to a slice and a bit of ice cream cake but I was balanced and still enjoyed with going over bored.

nothing like eating cake in the pool

The other great thing about summer time swimming is since you are outside you can have tons of messy drippy watermelon then just jump in the pool (cause I'm a cool mom and don't pool days count as baths in the summer??.)  Honestly I absolutely love watermelon it's the perfect healthy summer treat, but I used to never buy it because I HATED cutting it and I'm too cheap to buy the pre-cut.  Talk about sticky, juicy mess twss I know sorry couldn't help it.  That is until I learned this little trick.

Thank you Pinterest!

How To Cut a Watermelon with Less Mess

 1. Get a BIG ass knife (I like to use my serrated bread knife)

2. Hack off the top and bottom of the watermelon.

3. Carefully cut the rind off, so you kinda have a naked looking  watermelon.
notice there is hardly any juice...see it works.

4.Now just slice and dice how you like (you can pretend your Dexter)

now there will be some juice at this point but I found if you do it on a cookie sheet it pretty much stays contained  (I was just to lazy to do it yesterday so by the sink worked just as well)
The great thing I still have a ton of watermelon left over for this weeks snacks!

Linking up with these awesome chicks...

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary....

So if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this picture on Friday

Ahh isn't that sweet

just goes to prove looks are deceiving. That was the most painful walk ever!!
She wanted a smoothie "You promised mom"  but I wanted to get a workout in so I asked if she wanted to walk to the Starbucks (it's about 2 miles really not that far and she's done a few 5 ks with me so I knew she could hang)

OMG she is slower than molasses in the winter. Seriously look...

Our nice spring walk turned into me yelling "dude hurry up, quit lagging pay attention, your going to get hit by a car" like every 5 minutes and then the whole way back she tortured me with Mary, Mary Quite Contrary....Saying it, singing, it yelling it, you name she did it....
Really Mary I don't give a rats ass how your garden grows after about the 100th time!!

But when all was said and done and we were home guess what that little turd nugget asked
"Can we do it again tomorrow mom".... Know what I said??

"Sure honey that was fun"....

Saturday we actually didn't get to do that walk instead we hit up the Science Center in Santa Ana
They had Bubblefest and Animal Grossology.  It was lots of fun and super cool. I though we would only be there a few hours and instead ended up there all day. It was that fun!

Not gonna lie Bubble Guy was kinda hot

So many fun things to do...and only minimal yelling required ;)

When I got home I saw that I hadn't hit my steps even though I was on my feet all day. So though I was tired  I laced up my shoes and went for a walk ( had to do almost 1.5 miles to get them in).
See those Goals keeping me on track!!

Oh and just so you know all is good with DQ's backside though the doc did give her antibiotics "just in case".  And as far as mine went I'm still sportin steri strips and taking Saran Wrap showers ugh!

How was your weekend?  Hit any goals?

Fab Friday...Goals

I had to call off work today... my poor Drama Queen has a slight issue.

*ICK ALERT* if your squeamish stop reading, this is pretty gross...Just pop down to Fab Friday

So DQ has a BIG ole boil on her butt and it popped yesterday (if you don't know what a boil is whatever you do, DO NOT Google that shit, really trust me you will have nightmares or vomit probably both... so not kidding) seriously it was like Mt. Vesuvius when that thing blew and it was nasty. She laid on her tummy for an hour while stuff came out ewww .  Today it doesn't hurt as much but it looks pretty gross still so I'm gonna take her into her Doctor just to have them check it out.  God kids are gross!

Now time for Fab Friday

So let's be honest last Friday's Link-Up was a flop  *a few tears here* so this week I'm just going to do my own Fab find/tip and maybe when I get a few more followers and spread the word around a little more I'll try again.

This week started a new month and that means time for some new goals.  Goals are a great way to keep yourself on track and in check. They don't need to be huge they can be as simple as making it a goal to park in the farthest spot and walk the extra steps to the entrance. Or not eating your kids leftover pizza crust (guilty)!

But the tip/trick is you need to WRITE THEM DOWN !!

This really does make it more tangible  if you just keep it in your head you can always change it or alter it or even next time it.  Writing it down makes it "REAL", and helps you stay accountable.  If you really want to keep it "real" share it with someone, a friend, a spouse, or with the interweb friends like I do (hello blog).  Believe me when I put goals or say I'm going to do something on here I better do it or I feel like a complete shit and I let you  my awesome interweb friends down.
So I try my best to getter done.

 Give it a try

And since we are talking goals, here are mine for the month

#4 is some thing my trainer (when I was big ballin' and could afford a trainer, ya right like I was ever big ballin' more like debt callin')  She kept telling me to do this for many reasons like, it aids digestion, helps with cravings, balances your pH levels and a bunch of other stuff you can check out here.  I would off and on but never really stuck with it. So this month it's a goal and I put it out there so I better do it right!!

and this cute new mug I got will totally help...adorbs

 What are your April goals?

Bouncy PitBull

Ok, so I've been MIA for a week it's not that I don't love you all, it has just been the craziest week since like E-VER!  Here I'll recap it for you.
Tuesday was so much awesomeness my head almost exploded.  My girlies and I went to the PitBull and Ke$ha concert in Hollywood.  It was AMAZE-BAlls like really we literally danced like 4 hours straight!  Ke$ha was just so-so her music is fun and great to dance to be she sounds really bad live can we say auto-tune much, and is even to raunchy for my taste ok maybe not but she just tries to hard.  PitBull  on the other hand was like sex in a bottle.  That man is muy caliente  (for you non spanish speakers that mean very effn HOT) and he can sing and dance.  He kept the show going all night and was full of energy.  I will figure out a way to see him again soon!

Then as beat as I was (we didn't get home until 1:30am and had to work the next day) I had to spend Wednesday evening making a zillion cupcakes and put together "pony treats" (apples & carrots) for DQ's birthday party.

Then Thursday was the day.  DQ had a great time at her party and all went smooth.  It was at Pump It Up   which is a huge warehouse filled with every imaginable bouncy house, where the kids (and in my case the adults) are set free to go bat shit crazy!  It was a great time and instead of doing the "typical mom" thing and sit around and chat I got my butt in those bouncers and went nuts it was soooo much fun.  I went so nuts I even have a battle wound to prove it

Yup that's what happens when you go bouncing with a bunch of 6 year olds.

Also about weigh-in I was very nervous last week I have not been to the gym or done any sort of "real" work out in over a week and a half.  But I lost -1 pound!!! I am 171.4 Holy Shit! that is amazing.  Not the fact that I lost but that I am almost out of the 170's.

I am actually really happy with how last week went I knew I wasn't going to be able to get to the gym with everything going on so I made sure to eat well, and squeeze in any "extra" activity I could.  I walked a few times on my lunch break.  I danced at the concert all night and when any one wanted more beer (yup it happened) I would volunteer  to go get it, and I loved bouncing with the kiddos instead of just standing around and chatting.  It was an awesome week over all.

Horsecicles

So right now I should be finishing up the horsecicles for DQ's B-Day Party.....

I know horsecicles gross not really look

See not quite as gross as they sound... I have to make 24 of those huge ass chocolate horse pops, for DQ's party on Thursday.  Luckily I bribed TaTa to help me as well as put together 24 goodies bags, glue cute circles with horses on them to the bottom of about a million Hershey Kisses.  Now to talk her into helping me make 4 dozen cupcakes and put together a shit ton of "pony treat" boxes filled with carrots and apples on Wednesday.  UGGG I thought having a her party at a "place" would be easier, but I soo am that mom that can't do stuff half way and go totally Martha Stewart for parties.
Remember DQ's Mermaid Party that was not suppose to be a party.

Anyway This week is a busy one and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it to the gym at all. So my goal is to at least get in my 10,000 steps a day and be really good food wise.  Also since her party is going to be at a jumper place CareBear and I are going to make that our workout for Thursday and jump our asses off!

I'm actually bummed that we are not going to make it to the gym this Thursday.  We missed the last few due to her, then me being out of town.  So last week was finally a girls night.  CareBear suggested a ramped up workout of running to the gym (2 miles away) then take our Body Pump class then run back to work to pick up DQ.  I was a bit nervous that's a lotta working out, but I figured why not if we ran out of steam on the way back we could always call a coworker to come and rescue us.  So off we went.  It was actually not to bad just really freaking sweaty.  We were def slower on the way back but made it in time to pick up DQ before school closed which is always good.  I felt great after and we burned over 1000 calories according to my HRM.

Too bad we then proceeded to eat that many calories at Souplantation afterwards... Best laid plans right??  It's the damn bread I tell ya....

Weigh-In On Thursday...Yet Again, and again, and again...

Another late weigh in folks...sorry.

I think I will be saying this a lot this month it's CRAY around here.

Between vacation last week,  today is DQ's Birthday the big 6!

Next week me and my girlies are going to see Pitbull and Ke$ha on Tue then DQ's actual party on Thurs night ( I know slightly weird to have it on a weeknight but we live far from school and there is this awesome party place that is a huge room full of bounce houses really close to school so we decided to do it there to save on driving out an extra day  and the fact that they have a great special of kids eat free on a Wed or Thurs night party  hey I'm cheap sue me..  Then the following week my stepdaughter Ash will be coming out from AZ to stay with us for the week (this is a bit nerve wracking seeing as this is the first time ever that this has ever happened and she is 11 yrs. old)  but we are very excited.  And it's also DQ's Kinder promotion so like I said CRAY!!

Well now that you all know my every waking step for the next month let's get to it!
I was on vacation last week and lost so was a bit worried that I wasn't going to lose as much if any especially since it was so hot (120 F) the last few days I didn't work out too much in the morning and just swam and did a lot of treading water (had to stay cool some how).

When I stepped on the scale yesterday I was sooooo happy another loss -2.2 pounds so I am now at 172.4  OMGEEE so close to the 160s I can not freaking believe it.  I really did work hard this vacation and watched what I ate made healthy choices and made my body move even when all I wanted to do was sit on my ass and drink beer!  Don't get me wrong I did have a few cocktails,  and  ate what everyone else ate (dinner mostly).  I just was mindful of my portion size and if I did have one to many chips I swam and extra lap.

eating healthy even on the road!!!  (Ya I'm pretty multi talented...eating, picture taking and driving all at the same time... I kid, I kid,  I took this before I even pulled out of the parking spot cuz I was starvin)

Weigh-In Wednesday #51

Yay! I'm down 1.8 lbs...

Didn't quiet get rid of the 2 pounds I gained last week, but close enough.

It's been a bit hectic around here. The Hubs has been gone for most of the week at a job in Long Beach.  He is working at the oil refineries putting in a clean room or something like that.  It's been 4 10 hour days and with traffic it's just too much to drive everyday so he and his co-worker just stayed.

So I've been pretty much a single mom (again and boy I don't miss it). Luckily soccer was cancelled last week, but it's business as usual this week.

We had our "official starting" weigh-in for Biggest Loser last Thursday which means tomorrow will be the 1st results weigh-in.  I've really worked my butt off this week so I'm excited to see how I did.  I did weigh in a little heavy last week because of major water retention and I was coerced in to going to Souplantation for dinner last Wednesday and had two three pieces of the yummy sourdough bread it's like kryptonite to me.  So I expect a good loss.  Everyone has been really positive so far it is the first week though we even are going to start sharing healthy recipes that we are all eating at home.  I might just throw some on her for all you peeps :).

Hope you are all having a good week, and I'll leave ya with this

This is what we do when ya can't get to the gym #justdance
love that game and I wore my HM  not a bad burn!

That's Not Healthy

We all know that eating healthy, exercising,  and changing our habits for the better translates into smaller numbers on the scale, looking better, and, feeling better.

But how do we know when it's really sinking in??

Let me set the stage for you all...

It's  Wednesday in DQ's Kindergarten class and they are getting ready to have lunch.
In walks Nee's mom who brought McDonald's for her.  DQ walks up to her...

DQ: "Ya know you really shouldn't bring Nee McDonald's for lunch all the time"
MOM: "Oh really why is that?"
DQ: "Well it's really unhealthy."
MOM: "Really?"
DQ: "Yeah it has a lot of salt, and is cooked in oil, it also has a lot of fat and makes your body and heart work to hard, it clogs things up."
MOM: "Oh wow your right." (as she looks to the teacher with a who the hell is this kid look) "Do you ever have McDonald's?"
DQ: "Yes but only sometimes cause it's a sometimes food not an all the time food.  All the time food is fruit and vegetables and healthy things like that."
MOM: "Ummm your right thank you."  (the look now is WTF get me outta here)
DQ: "Your welcome. Oh and you have to run and go to the gym too cause that's healthy too."

Ummm yeah so that really happened, how do I know cause my best bud Mel is one of DQ's teachers and heard the whole thing.  She said that the mom was all flustered and looking to her like who the hell is this kid,  all while Mel is trying not to laugh!!

So Yeah that's how you know when your healthy habits are rubbing off...
